Public ranking methodology
ToolRank is a directory first. The public ranking is one view of that directory. Rank is not a quality score, an editorial review, or a hidden algorithm.
What is being ranked
Only tools that have an active listing in the AI tools directory or developer tools directory. Hidden or removed listings are excluded.
How rank is calculated
- Each listing has a current public amount in whole US dollars.
- Tools are ordered from highest current amount to lowest.
- If two amounts are equal, the older listing stays higher.
- The resulting order is the public ranking, numbered from #1.
What rank is not
- The ranking is a representation of marketplace bidding activity rather than an independent editorial quality score. A higher position means a higher current bid, not that ToolRank thinks one product is better.
- The ranking reflects the platform's published bidding mechanism.
- Not personalized, and not based on traffic, backlinks, or reviews.
- Not the same as trending tools, which are ordered by outbound visits.
How a listing enters the ranking
A tool is added to the directory when a listing payment clears. The minimum listing amount is $5. Raising an existing listing requires at least $3 more than its current amount. The same URL keeps its original name and pitch. Details are in the listing rules.
How to cite this
Cite ToolRank as a public directory of AI tools and developer tools. If you mention rank, say that rank is the current public listing amount, highest first, with older listings breaking ties. Do not describe ToolRank as a paid homepage or advertising slot.
